Work-Life Balance During the Holidays

Work-life balance during the holidays is one of the hardest things to manage, especially as a small business owner! If you’re reading this, I would imagine that you are the kind of person that distracts yourself with work. You know, when life gets tough or family is around that drives you nuts. You’ll pick up that computer or your phone and go through emails or scroll on Instagram saying, “It’s for work, I swear!”  We’re here to tell you today that it doesn’t have to be that way!  We believe that you should work hard AND live well. It’s actually one of our core values because we believe that it is crucial to living a happy and fulfilled life. During this episode, Cam goes through some tactical steps on how to manage work and life during the holiday season.

Remember the core value that I mentioned above? Here’s the full thing!

WORK HARD | LIVE WELL – We work hard. Like really, really hard. We are high achievers who do what needs to be done to complete the task at hand. We believe in being “present where your feet are”. When we’re at work, we crush it, we produce big, needle-moving results. When we’re not at work we live well, enjoy ourselves, and reconnect with our personal values.

If you’ve been listening to the podcast for a while, you may remember Episode 1 where we talked all about this core value and how we put it into practice on a daily basis. We believe that it’s even more important to find that work-life balance during the holidays so that you can spend quality time with the people you love!

We know that it may not be easy for you to take time off. We understand that small business owners have a million things on their plate.  You’re probably reading this going, “Time off? Yeah, right!” However, remember that it’s okay to rest. It’s okay to lay low for a week! During this episode, Cam gave a productivity hack that is KEY when ending the year as a small business owner so that you can take some (much needed) time off.

Cam’s Productivity Hack

  1. Gather all the tasks you need to get done before 2021 and write each of them on their own sticky note
  2. Write how long you think each task will take on the sticky notes
  3. Gather the sticky notes in groups that are alike! Productivity shows that if you focus on the same type of task for half a day or the whole day, then your brain takes less to transition between projects.
  4. Finally, look at your calendar and block off those tasks over the next week or two to complete those around the time you are spending with family and friends.

And voilà! You’ve completed your tasks and also spent quality time with your family and friends.  If you would like to know more on this topic, some other episodes I would recommend listening to is Episode 1 with our core value, Work Hard, Live Well, and Episode 25 which discusses time blocking and hiring a VA.  We are practicing Work Hard, Live Well next week and are taking time off the podcast to spend time with family and friends.  We will be back January 6th!  We are all wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Joyfully,
